Yet another game arrives for FC Barcelona in La Liga as they take on Villarreal at the Montjuic Stadium. However, the reality and objectives in the league for both teams could not be any more different. For Barcelona, in particular, there is no real goal left to chase there in the league.

After having sealed the La Liga title against Espanyol in their previous game, Hansi Flick’s team has been out celebrating and parading in front of their fans. Ultimately, that is exactly what is expected of them after having accomplished such a massive achievement of winning the domestic treble.

Match Overview:

However, this match will not be easy for Barcelona if they think they can just keep their momentum going. While they may have won La Liga already, other teams are still hungry to achieve their own objectives. For Villarreal, that objective would require them to beat Barcelona and they will aim to do so.

After all, Marcelino’s team is hoping to be in the UEFA Champions League next season. A win at the Montjuic Stadium against Barcelona would mathematically confirm that for them, and they could potentially even challenge for the fourth position in the league table.

However, beyond the game itself, respect on the pitch is always something crucial. Ahead of the match itself, the Villarreal coach has already confirmed that his team will give a guard of honour to Barcelona as they have successfully managed to win La Liga this season.

Still, Barça should be aiming to hit 90 points themselves by winning against both Villarreal and then Athletic Club as well. To do that and finish off their season in the strongest manner possible, the Catalan giants will need to be sharp and wave off their party mood for now.

Moreover, in terms of form, Villarreal have looked dangerous recently. Across their last five games, they have won four matches and have lost one. Furthermore, they have scored a total of nine goals in their last five games and have conceded five goals in the same timespan.

Barcelona, on the other hand, have been strong themselves in terms of form. They have three wins, and one draw and one loss against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League. In terms of goals, moreover, they have scored 14 goals in those five games and have conceded 11 in return, and that defensive aspect of their game certainly needs work.

Still, in terms of quality, Barcelona have enough to not just trouble Villarreal but also win. However, it depends on which version of the team ends up showing up considering the fact that they have just won the league and Flick could even consider some heavy rotations.
