Barcelona host Villarreal this evening with the club’s title celebrations in full swing.
The Catalans clinched the La Liga title in midweek and are set to be presented with the trophy tonight. Lamine Yamal’s wonder goal set the club on route to a 2-0 win over local rivals Espanyol, before Fermin Lopez sealed the points and title triumph.
It’s been a fantastic first season for Hansi Flick, who has led Barcelona to a domestic treble. The German has agreed an extension to his deal to keep him in Catalonia until June 2027.
Villarreal are on the cusp of securing Champions League qualification. Five points ahead of Real Betis ahead of the penultimate games, a point should be enough given their superior goal difference. Spain set set to be allocated five teams in next season’s competition.
Hansi Flick could make changes to his team with title success secured. Fermin Lopez and Gavi are among the names who will hope to return to the starting side.
Inigo Martinez’s return from suspension is well time with Ronald Araujo a doubt. The latter was forced off during the title-clinching win at Espanyol on Thursday.
Ferran Torres, Jules Kounde and Marc Bernal are all unavailable for Barcelona.
Barcelona predicted XI: Szczesny; E Garcia, Cubarsi, I Martinez, Balde; De Jong, Pedri; Yamal, Fermin, Raphinha; Lewandowski.
Barcelona host Villarreal in La Liga on Sunday May 18th 2025. Kick-off is 18:00 BST.
Barcelona vs Villarreal will be shown live on Premier Sports 1 and LALIGATV.
