Following a worrisome 1-1 draw with Celtic at the Allianz Arena last Tuesday, which was just good enough for Bayern Munich to secure passage to the European Champions League round of 16, the Bavarian club returned to Bundesliga action with a home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. With Leverkusen having trimmed Bayern’s lead at the top of the table to just five points, courtesy of a 2-0 victory at Holstein Kiel, 24 hours earlier, the Rekordmeister needed a victory to maintain a healthy points cushion at the top of the table.Despite getting off to a slow start, a far from full-strength Bayern Munich side, rather surprisingly, went through the gears to convincingly defeat the visitors. Let’s look at some key performers from Bayern’s 4-0 victory on matchday 23.

Michael Olise

Based on the current form of the team, with Thomas Muller starting in place of the injured Harry Kane, concerns over where the goals would come from were not unwarranted ahead of kick-off. Much to the relief of fans, the chances and goals flowed albeit, mainly in the second half. The main contributor to Bayern’s sharpness in attack on the night was Michael Olise. Almost every time he touched the ball in the attacking third, the hosts looked threatening.

Thanks to a goal in first-half added time from the 23-year-old French attacker, Bayern entered the break with a 1-0 lead. Having been deployed on the right wing, Olise showed good instinct to appear in the center-forward position in the six-yard box to get on the end of a left-sided cutback from Leroy Sané to open the scoring.

Olise also created two big chances and was on target with three of his four shots. He also was impressive off the ball in completing a whopping 11 recoveries.
