Former Manchester City defender Jen Beattie has called time on her incredible career in professional football.

The Scotland international spent four and a half years at the Joie Stadium from 2015-2019, featuring 114 times and scoring 12 goals in the process.

She also represented her country an incredible 143 times before retiring from international football in 2023, helping Scotland qualify for their first-ever major tournament in 2017 and the World Cup two years later.

During her time in Blue, she won two FA Cups, a League Cup and the Barclays Women’s Super League title in 2016.

Beattie was a key figure in that league-winning side, with City conceding just four times en route to completing an unbeaten season.

Further individual acclaim would follow in 2018 when she was named Women’s Player of the Year at the Northwest Football Awards.

She left the Club in 2019, returning for a second stint at fellow WSL side Arsenal, where she added another League Cup to her trophy cabinet in 2022/23.

However, the defender’s achievements are all the more significant considering her successful recovery from breast cancer, with Beattie continuing to represent the Gunners and Scotland through her treatment.

Recognition in the New Years’ Honours List would follow in 2023 for services to football and charity, two years on from her winning the Helen Rollason award at the 2021 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

Leaving Arsenal in February 2024, Beattie spent the next year at Bay FC in the United States but has now decided to call time on her hugely successful career in the game, which spans almost 20 years.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Jen on her incredible career in the game and wish her all the best in her retirement.
