Real Madrid secured an important victory over Valencia which now takes them to the top of the table.

Despite being a man down for the last 20 minutes, an all-round performance from Jude Bellingham meant that Los Blancos would be the winning side on the night.

Here is how the Real Madrid players fared against Valencia.

Player ratings:

Thibaut Courtois: 7.0

Was a busy player throughout the game. Tested by Valencia throughout the first half and was unlucky to concede a goal on a rebound. Did his job but would have liked a clean sheet for sure.

Lucas Vazquez: 6.0

Not the best start to the year for Lucas as he was caught napping on the Valencia opener and failed to track back Hugo Duro. Could have had an assist in the opening 5 minutes.

Aurelien Tchouaméni: 7.0

Another decent outing for the Frenchman who is not disappointing as a centre back. Won 7/8 duels, made a couple of clearances and tackles also. Could not have done much for the opener.

Antonio Rüdiger: 6.5

A rather unconvincing display from the German. Lost track of Hugo Duro for the opening goal and easily lost his position when the home side was on the counter. Though won 3/4 duels.

Ferland Mendy: 6.0

Recorded just one tackle on the night and won two of his duels. A disappointing night for the Frenchman.

Dani Ceballos: 7.0

Held his ground for most part of the game but was caught on the transition. Was all over the place in the opening half – like most of the team – but improved in the second.

Fede Valverde: 7.0

Did not look like his usual best. Tried his best yet again from long range but was unlucky. Worked tirelessly throughout the night.

Jude Bellingham: 9.0

Baffles everyone week in week out with his performances. Missed a penalty and everyone thought it wasn’t his night but made up for it by assisting and scoring the goals. Well and truly Real Madrid’s leader.

Rodrygo: 5.0

A disappointing start to the year following a good run in December. One shot which was off target. Rightfully got subbed off for Brahim Díaz.

Kylian Mbappe: 6.0

Quiet beginning to 2025 for the star attacker. Thought he had netted the equaliser but was barely found offside. Other than that, won a penalty and completed two dribbles.

Vinícius Júnior: 6.0

At the receiving end of boos and whistles throughout the night. Had a chance in the opening half, which a player of his calibre is expected to finish. After initial contact from Dimitrievski, the Brazilian lost his cool and ended up receiving a red card. Could be ruled out of the next two league fixtures.

Substitutes:

Brahim Díaz: 6.5

Played in the midfield and had a good outing. Won the ball for Madrid’s first goal.

Eduardo Camavinga: 7.0

Way better than Mendy as left-back and outperformed his fellow Frenchman. Although he would have his heart in his mouth after he was beaten by Luis Rioja and his attempt for the equaliser hit the post in the last minute.

Luka Modric: 7.5

Became the oldest goal scorer in the history of Real Madrid after scoring the equaliser in his 561st match for the club. Put in a good shift in the midfield also.
