Borussia Dortmund turned down Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell in the summer | OneFootball

According to Sky Germany, Borussia Dortmund were offered the chance to sign Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell during the summer transfer window.

Last season, BvB were able to secure the services of Ian Maatsen on loan from Chelsea for the second half of the campaign—a transfer that saved their season, with the Dutchman playing a key role in helping guide the club to the Champions League final.

Therefore, when he returned to the Premier League and signed a permanent deal at Aston Villa, there were suggestions that Dortmund would be in need of signing a replacement this summer.

However, Die Schwarzgelben were unable to find a replacement for the 22-year-old.

Nevertheless, as stated in the report, BvB were offered the opportunity to sign Chilwell from the Blues, but after discussing the transfer internally, the decision was made to ultimately turn down the former England international.

While it is understood that the Black and Yellow’s are still on the hunt for a left-back, due to Chilwell’s injury record, they—along with a plethora of other sides—have refrained from taking a chance on the 27-year-old.
