It will be a showdown between two of the most in-form teams in the Premier League when Liverpool travel to Bournemouth on Saturday at 3pm.
Bournemouth (4-2-3-1): Arrizabalaga; Cook, Zabarnyi, Huijsen, Kerkez; Christie, Adams; Brooks, Kluivert, Semenyo; Outtara
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Allison; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szobozslai, Gakpo; Diaz
Andoni Iraola’s miracle work with Bournemouth is even more impressive when you look at the injuries they have had to face. Going into this weekend’s affair, the Cherries are expected to be nine men short.
Eres Unal is out for the season after rupturing his ACL at the start of the month. Evanilson and Marcos Senesi are also suffering long-term injuries. The Brazilian is out with a metarsal fracture until April, while Senesi required surgery on a thigh injury and will not return until March.
Julian Araujo and James Hill are also both dealing with thigh issues and will be unavailable for a few weeks. Capping off Bournemouth’s injury woes are Adam Smith, Alex Scott and Luis Sinisterra, who are all doubtful for the game.
Meanwhile, the visitors are almost at full strength, and are awaiting the return of just four players.
Arne Slot revealed on January 20th that Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota would be out for a matter of weeks, with the latter expected to be back with the squad earlier than the former.
Curtis Jones suffered a knock in Liverpool’s penultimate Champions League group phase game against Lille, and is questionable to play against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Darwin Nunez was left out of the squad for Wednesday’s defeat to PSV due to illness. It’s not yet known whether this will have an impact on Saturday’s game.
Justin Kluivert became the first Bournemouth player to ever score multiple hat-tricks in a single Premier League season, after three of the best against Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.
His father, Patrick Kluivert, netted 13 goals during his brief spell with the Toon, but only found the back of the net once at St James’ Park, with his son overtaking that tally in one game.
Kluivert is up to 11 goals in the league this season, Bournemouth’s top scorer, and has logged the seventh-most goal contributions (15) of any Premier League player in 2024-25.
Another hat-trick would put Kluivert in the company of seven other elite players to have logged three or more in a Premier League campaign. These are: Alan Shearer (five), Erling Haaland (four), Harry Kane (four), Sergio Aguero (three), Luis Suarez (three), Dimitar Berbatov (three) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (three).
Bournemouth have been imperious against the “Big Six” this season, winning four games, drawing one and losing two. They will be seeking vengeance over Liverpool after the Reds swept them aside to win 3-0 at Anfield earlier in the season.
