Brendan’s player improvement Midas Touch – Alistair Johnston latest to benefit

Alistair Johnston has been a vital part of our side ever since he signed for the club in early 2023 as a replacement for the outgoing Josip Juranovic. The Canadian international right-back made his debut in a 2-2 draw at Ibrox and immediately looked the part, and he hasn’t looked back since.

He’s good on the ball. He’s a leader, he’s strong and athletic. He’s got everything you need in a modern day full back, and is very much a Brendan Rodgers type of player.

Brendan seems to have something of a Midas touch when it comes to improving good players. Take Matt O’Riley for example. Brendan transformed his game to a completely new level, so much show that he left for a record fee to the EPL.

Alistair is yet another example of that, and it’s no coincidence he’s become a much better player under the Irishman’s leadership.

Not only has his all round game improved, but he’s now added goals to his game. The Canadian international now has four for the campaign and currently sits second in the SPFL scoring charts, and not a penalty in sight I may add.

Scoring goals regularly

We looked below par against Dundee on Wednesday, until Brendan rang a few changes. Alistair was one of those changes and he immediately contributed by scoring the all important opening goal.

Alistair is very much one of our most vital players, and I’d expect him to get even better. That of course is in a big part down to Brendan Rodgers.
