As the Premier League season edges to its conclusion, Brighton host newly crowned champions Liverpool at the Amex Stadium in what promises to be a fascinating Monday night encounter. With Europe potentially within reach for the Seagulls and Liverpool looking to end their title-winning campaign with authority, there’s more than just pride on the line.
Brighton find themselves on the cusp of continental football again — a scenario that reflects how far they’ve come in recent years. Fabian Hurzeler’s men are still in the running for a top-eight finish, and depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final between Crystal Palace and Manchester City, that could be enough to punch a ticket to Europe.
It’s not just the broader narrative of European qualification driving Brighton forward. At home, they’ve been formidable. The Amex has seen some stirring performances this season, and the return of Joao Pedro from suspension is a welcome boost. The Brazilian missed three games following a red card against Brentford but brings invention and a goal threat the Seagulls have sorely lacked in recent weeks.

However, Brighton will likely be without several key names. Ferdi Kadioglu, James Milner, Georginio Rutter, and Solly March are all ruled out through injury, while captain Lewis Dunk and Joel Veltman remain doubtful. With limited options at the back, Brighton’s ability to contain Liverpool’s dynamic frontline will be tested.
Liverpool, under new manager Arne Slot, have already wrapped up the Premier League title — a remarkable achievement in his debut season. Yet, their approach hasn’t been one of easing off. “I always win things in my second season,” Slot once said, but he’s clearly ahead of schedule.
Mohamed Salah, emblematic of Liverpool’s enduring ambition, is closing in on the Premier League assists record. Even with the title secured, personal and team milestones are keeping the Reds sharp. However, recent displays suggest their intensity may have dipped. Against Chelsea and Arsenal, there were signs of fatigue or perhaps contentment, a natural consequence of having already achieved the primary objective.

Joe Gomez could feature, having returned to training. Still, his readiness remains uncertain, meaning Trent Alexander-Arnold — who struggled against Arsenal — may continue to shoulder defensive and creative duties.
Despite Liverpool’s firepower, Brighton will believe this is their moment. The south coast club will know by kick-off whether a top-eight finish carries European consequences. That clarity, coupled with home advantage and a sense of occasion, could fuel an upset.
Liverpool, meanwhile, may not be fully switched on — metaphorically still “on the beach” after sealing the title. Their attack will be dangerous, but Brighton’s motivation and tactical fluidity may give them the edge. Expect Fabian Hurzeler’s side to press with purpose and exploit any lapses in Liverpool’s midfield transitions.
Prediction: Brighton 2-2 Liverpool
