Juventus Women close out their Serie A regular season this Sunday with their Matchday 18 trip to take on Milan. The league then splits in two and the Poule Scudetto begins.
To preview the game against the Rossonere, coach Massimiliano Canzi shared his thoughts.
“It’s been an enjoyable season, an intense one, and without a moment’s rest, especially for those of us who competed in the group phase of the Women’s Champions League as well,” he said.
“We’re now at a point where the points carry even more weight, because there’s less of a chance to make up for any slips, and that’s something that applies to every team in the league.”
“We’re expecting to come up against a side in good form, they’re doing well and playing good football. It will be a difficult game.”
“Something was missing just with the final touches. We had a lot of shots, we played with the right spirit, created a lot. We knew it would be tough but it was just one of those days that can happen over the course of a season.
“If you just look at the stats without knowing the result, you’d think that it was a match won by a goal or two. It was further proof that the only statistic in football that matters is how many times you put the ball in the net. Sometimes that plays in your favour and other times it doesn’t. But the performance was there, unlike in the Italian Cup [second leg against Lazio], and if anything we take home the lesson that playing well isn’t always enough.”
“The first of the girls to arrive this winter, [Mathilde] Harviken and [Abi] Brighton, are adapting to our game which, especially when you arrive from abroad, isn’t always easily done. They’re doing very well.
“Now [Emma] Stolen Godo, a player we know from having played against her with Valerenga, has also come in. She’s progressing with her physical training and we’re sure she’ll help us out a lot.”
