Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Friday backed Jude Bellingham to become a future captain of the club.

Youngster Bellingham has of course spent the season to date continuing to make a name for himself as one of the standout midfielders in world football.

After enduring something of a difficult start to the new campaign after a remarkable debut season in Spain’s capital, the Englishman has since gotten things firmly back on track.

After notching a last-minute winner against Manchester City in the Champions League in midweek, Bellingham took his tally for 2024/25 to 21 direct goal contributions in 32 appearances.

And yet, whilst it is the 21-year-old’s excellence in the final third which continues to steal the headlines, Bellingham’s game involves so much more.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent is a workhorse, who continues to excel on the less glamorous side of things, too.

Taking into account such traits, the possibility of Bellingham one day securing the captain’s armband at the Santiago Bernabéu was therefore put to Carlo Ancelotti on Friday.

And the Italian tactician did not hesitate in backing his midfield standout:

“Jude has personality, character, top mentality… he can be a leader for the present and future, for sure. He’s so young but he will be a key player for Real Madrid for many years. I’m 100% sure of that.”
