Brentford head coach Thomas Frank has revealed that Fábio Carvalho has picked up a minor groin injury, which is the reason why he missed the Bees' New Year's Day defeat to Arsenal.

The Portuguese midfielder is also a doubt for Saturday's Premier League game at Southampton.

In more positive news, Mark Flekken, Sepp van den Berg and Mathias Jensen - who all returned to action against the Gunners, the latter from the bench - are fit and available for the weekend's trip to St Mary's Stadium.

"It's a minor groin injury [for Carvalho]," confirmed Frank. "He's unlikely to be involved for Southampton.

"Everyone that was available for Arsenal is available for Southampton.

"The ones that came back against Arsenal - Mathias Jensen, Sepp van den Berg and Flekken - all came through well so that's good.

"In terms of the longer-term injuries, there's no real update."

Those longer-term injuries include Ben Mee, Ethan Pinnock (hamstring), Kristoffer Ajer (ankle), Igor Thiago (joint infection), Gustavo Nunes (back), Rico Henry (knee), Aaron Hickey (hamstring) and Josh Dasilva (knee), who all still remain sidelined.
