Chelsea slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Ipswich Town to end 2024 on a negative note.

The hosts struck early in both halves through Liam Delap and former Blues youngster Omari Hutchinson to consign Enzo Maresca’s side to their second away defeat in the Premier League this season.

Furthermore, it’s now three games without a win for Chelsea as their title credentials have taken a huge dent over the festive period.

Here’s how Enzo Maresca’s side rated at Portman Road...

Filip Jorgensen 5

Maybe a touch unfortunate to give away early penalty, just catching Delap. Did not let it rattle him, though, and made three big saves from the same player.

Axel Disasi 2

Brought in to offer more protection against Leif Davis’s raids, but Chelsea missed Malo Gusto’s dynamism down that flank. Had two shockers in one move for Ipswich second.

Tosin Adarabioyo 4

Goal-saving block on Nathan Broadhead early on but found it tough going up against Delap thereafter.

Levi Colwill 5

Not overworked defensively as Delap targeted Tosin. Fine cross deserved a finish from Madueke. Booked.

Marc Cucurella 5

Made himself public enemy No1, as per. Drove decent chance wide early on.

Moises Caicedo 5

Usual shielding role was negated by Ipswich’s direct aerial approach. His least effective game for some time. Booked.

Enzo Fernandez 5

Some penetrating passes and tried to urge his side on.

Quiet: Enzo Fernandez didn’t have his best game for Chelsea against Ipswich.

Noni Madueke 4

Brought back into the starting lineup after being left out of the squad entirely on Boxing Day. Switched on defensively but indecisive going the other way. Air-kicked great back-post chance.

Cole Palmer 6

Naturally, Chelsea’s best player. Hit the woodwork twice and created disallowed Felix effort.

Joao Felix 4

Saw goal chalked off for tight offside but was wasteful with his finishing from other openings. Telling that he was the first man dragged.

Christopher Nkunku 4

Ineffective as a No9 in this kind of game. Another hooked when Blues needed goals.

Substitutes

Nicolas Jackson (Felix 55’) 5

Relieved to see flag go up when sliding glorious chance wide.

Jadon Sancho (Nkunku 65’) 5

Malo Gusto (Disasi 77’) N/A

Booked.

Pedro Neto (Madueke 77’) N/A
