AC Milan technical director Geoffrey Moncada has hinted the club could sell Theo Hernandez this summer if the defender fails to sign a new contract.
Hernandez’s current contract expires in 2026 and the left-back will enter the final 12 months of his deal in the summer.
The France international has established himself as one of Europe’s best attacking full-backs at Milan, where he has been courted by Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Manchester United.
Milan have several big names whose deals are running down and are working behind the scenes to secure extensions. Moncada confirmed deals are close for Christian Pulisic and Tijjani Reijnders, though no such progress has been made with Hernandez.
Discusing the future of those whose deals are running out, Moncada hinted at summer sales. He insisted Milan ‘cannot lose a player for free’. The Rossoneri have seen big names including Gianluigi Donnarumma, Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Franck Kessie leave on free transfers in recent years.
“We worked well with the club and did everything to renew the contracts. We cannot lose a player for free when his contract runs down, so it is crucial that we are open with the players, and they are happy to remain.”
Hernandez has made 248 appearances for Milan since joining the club from Real Madrid and formed part of the side that won Serie A in 2021/22. He has been named in Italy’s Team of the Season in four of the last five campaigns.
