Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made five changes to the starting line-up for tonight’s Europa League clash against Rangers at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last weekend. Amorim was visibly frustrated after the game.
The Portuguese will expect a better showing against Rangers tonight. Ahead of the encounter, he has made five changes from the defeat to the Seagulls.
Andre Onana made a high-profile error against Brighton, which paved the way for the third goal.
The Cameroonian has been dropped to the bench. Altay Bayindir has got the nod between the sticks.
In the back three, there is a solitary change with Harry Maguire making way for Lisandro Martinez.
Martinez will partner Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro in the heart of the defence.
Noussair Mazraoui has been dropped on the back of a poor performance from right wing-back. Amad Diallo starts from the position versus Rangers.
Diogo Dalot has been inconsistent in the left wing-back role under Amorim, but the 25-year-old is the club’s best solution at the current point in time.
In central midfield, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo are dropped after underwhelming displays against Brighton last weekend.
Toby Collyer, who has impressed in recent cameo appearances in the league, starts in the centre of the park alongside Christian Eriksen.
With Diallo at right wing-back, Alejandro Garnacho has got the nod alongside Bruno Fernandes in attacking midfield. It could be his final game for United.
Up front, Joshua Zirkzee continues to lead the line ahead of Rasmus Hojlund. He won a first-half penalty against Brighton, but needs to score goals too.
As things stand, United are placed ninth in the league phase of the Europa League.
They must beat Rangers to reclaim a top eight spot, which ensures automatic qualification for the round of 16 stage without a knockout round play-off.
Confirmed Man Utd line-up (3-4-2-1) vs Rangers: Bayindir; Yoro, De Ligt, Martinez; Diallo, Collyer, Eriksen, Dalot; Garnacho, Fernandes; Zirkzee.
