A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has this week been diagnosed with a case of lumbosciatica.
The player in question? Federico Valverde.
Valverde, for his part, featured from the off once more on Saturday, as Real Madrid closed out what has been an altogether disappointing campaign with a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad.
The Uruguayan, though, not for the first time this season, was forced to play through pain at the Santiago Bernabéu.
As per an official statement across the website and social media platforms of Los Blancos on Sunday:
‘Following tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with lumbosciatica. The outcome is pending.’
Lumbosciatica is defined as ‘a disorder of the lumbar spine that causes pain in the lower back, accompanied by involvement of the sciatic nerve’.
Valverde will be treated for the ailment over the coming weeks, with the hope of being fit and available for the start of the FIFA Club World Cup.
