Empoli coach Roberto D’Aversa feels Juventus’ 4-1 win does not reflect the Tuscans’ performance in Turin: ‘Incidents determine the final result.’

Empoli lost 4-1 against Juventus in Turin but took an early lead thanks to a goal from ex-Juventus defender De Sciglio. VAR revoked a penalty kick for Empoli when they were leading 1-0 at minute 15, while Youssef Maleh was sent off in the second half.

“Some incidents can have an impact. I carry some doubts with me, and I regret it because I don’t want to make excuses for my players,” D’Aversa told DAZN.

“However, I’m not talking about single incidents. Out of six interventions, the first yellow card was for Maleh, and this affected the game. It was an even match until we were reduced to ten men. There was a deflection on the Weah shot, and the ball went in, while with our shot, it went out. These are the incidents that determine the final result.

“I have to highlight the excellent performance until Colombo’s chance when we were already down to 10 men,” continued the Empoli boss.

“After the 3-1, the game went down a path that didn’t reflect what we saw on the field.”
