Manchester United have reportedly sealed an early agreement with Viktor Gyokeres to allow for a swift summer transfer.
Ruben Amorim is said to have spearheaded the Red Devils’ pursuit in hopes of reuniting with his ex-talisman in just his second transfer window, having not been backed sufficiently in the winter.
Gyokeres played 68 matches under Amorim, scoring 66 goals and assisting a further 19. In total, this campaign, the centre-forward has notched 34 goals in just 35 outings, making it no surprise he’s tipped to be one of the most sought-after stars of the summer this year.
That’s why United are hoping to have pipped their noses in front of the race for Gyokeres by negotiating a prospective deal with Sporting Lisbon following Amorim’s amicable exit last November.

The news comes courtesy of Miguel Delaney in his Reading the Game newsletter, as he claims United’s quiet January was due to them laying the groundwork for Gyokeres in four months’ time.
“The club did not replace [Marcus] Rashford with any forward… and the thinking there is that Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres is in place for the summer,” said Delaney. “Things can change, of course, but this was very much the noise at the end of the window.”
Meanwhile, FootballTransfers adds: “Gyokeres has a €100 million release clause, and Sporting would have insisted on it being triggered in January, but the Lisbon club have already agreed to let the Swede leave in the summer for €60m-€70m.”
Assuming the transfer does indeed come to fruition, it remains to be seen where it would leave Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund – particularly the latter, as he is more of an out-and-out striker than his Dutch counterpart.
