Ex-Roma and Italy midfielder Gigi Di Biagio feels Antonio Conte would be the ideal replacement for Claudio Ranieri, even better than Carlo Ancelotti or Jurgen Klopp.

Roma will hire a new coach for 2025-26 and several names have already been linked with the Giallorossi job.

Ranieri has signed a contract until the end of the season and will have an input in deciding his successor, and Di Biagio, a former Italy and Roma midfielder, has clear ideas on who the Giallorossi should pick.

“The perfect name for Roma right now is not Ancelotti or Klopp but Antonio Conte,” he told Gazzetta via TMW.

“He may be just a dream, but he would be ideal. Roma needs solidity, but even Pioli would be a good choice.”

Conte has also been linked with Milan and Juventus, and the Bianconeri will visit Roma on Sunday night in a key game for the Serie A title race.

Conte signed a three-year contract with Napoli last summer, so his agreement at the Stadio Maradona expires in June 2027.

Roma have been unbeaten since December 15 and are just four points below fourth-placed Bologna and three behind Juventus.

“The fixture list is tough, and they are still four points behind [the top four] despite an incredible comeback,” Di Biagio continued.

“I’m more worried about Juventus than Bologna because they have a new coach and, on paper, easier matches. Sunday will be a crucial game.”
