Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Osasuna at El Sadar was already mired in controversy due to Jude Bellingham’s red card, but another, even more disturbing, incident took place during the match.
Vinicius Junior was once again subjected to vile abuse from the stands, with some Osasuna fans chanting “Vinicius, die” during the game.
The incident occurred shortly after Kylian Mbappe’s opening goal when Vinicius went to change his shirt in front of Carlo Ancelotti.
Movistar Plus+ cameras captured the offensive chants, which were clearly audible despite efforts to combat hatred in football.
Ironically, children accompanying Osasuna’s players had walked onto the pitch wearing T-shirts promoting an anti-hate message before kick-off.
This latest episode adds to a long list of racial and personal abuse that Vinicius has endured in La Liga. The Brazilian forward has been targeted in multiple stadiums, with no end in sight.
Real Madrid and Vinicius are expected to report the incident, but whether La Liga or the Spanish football authorities take meaningful action remains to be seen.
