The Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy are taking a deep dive on the wreckage of AC Milan’s season, and they’ve picked out one culprit for close analysis – Joao Felix.

Their writer Marco Pasotto has written a summary of the attackers month in Milan since making his loan move from Chelsea.

“He simply does not have the tools to make the difference,” Pasotto writes, and that’s just the start of where Chelsea fans will be able to relate to his thoughts.

He points out that “in the context of a team that works, he would be the added value, the player who tickles the palate and offers a show.”

But like Chelsea, Milan are not the finished article, so Felix doesn’t offer anything. So far, so familiar for Blues fans. Pasotto say that Felix can’t be considered a “flop” for the simple reason that expectations were so low.

He also makes the excellent point, however, that if he were a “phenomenon”, he wouldn’t have been able to leave Stamford Bridge mid-season, after 6 months spent mainly on the bench.

Felix already likely on his way back to be Chelsea headache again

Things started so well in Serie A for Felix, with a debut goal and early talk of how a permanent deal could be done. The gloss didn’t take long to come off the Portuguese in West London, and it’s taken even less time in Lombardy. “More smoke than substance” is one rating of his performance quoted in this piece.

To summarise, the piece concludes that “Joao’s plane ticket from London to Milan will not be a one-way ticket.”

That’s brutal news for Blues fans who want the attacker moved on, but sadly something we’ve already seen coming after his bright start faded away.
