The Sporting Director of Empoli has confirmed that the Tuscan club have a purchase option on Sebastiano Esposito, and Inter Milan don’t have a buyback clause.
Empoli Sporting Director Roberto Gemmi spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews. He updated on the 22-year-old striker’s future.
Esposito joined Empoli on loan last summer.
The Tuscans are the first team in Serie A to have signed the young striker on loan.
Esposito has had spells in Serie B, with the likes of SPAL, Venezia, Bari, and Sampdoria. There were also loans abroad, to Basel and Anderlecht.
But in his first campaign starting regularly in the Italian top flight, Esposito has really found his feet.
The Inter-owned striker has become something of a talismanic figure for Roberto D’Aversa’s Empoli side as they push to keep themselves in Serie A.
Esposito has scored seven goals in the league so far this campaign.
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old also scored in open play and then during the shootout as Empoli knocked derby rivals Fiorentina out of the Coppa Italia at the round of sixteen stage.
Esposito is not the only young striker currently on loan at Empoli.
The Tuscans have also had the likes of Lorenzo Colombo and Pietro Pellegri leading their line this campaign.
And Empoli’s Sporting Director Gemmi has confirmed, “We have an option to sign Colombo, Esposito, and Pellegri at the end of this season.”
“They all came in on loan, with an option to buy,” he added. “And there’s no buyback clause.”
As far as what his club’s plans actually are, Gemmi noted that “There’s time for us to decide.”
“I hope that all three can eventually make it to the national team,” he added.
The Empoli Sporting Director said that “We’re happy with their performances.”
“They can do even more,” he added. “And maybe one day even play for big teams.”
