As Inter prepare to host Juventus in the highly-anticipated Derby d’Italia in Serie A on Sunday evening, here is everything you need to know about the two teams, their recent form and their record against each other.

Inter and Juventus team news

Both sides will have to do without several first-team players for Sunday’s game in San Siro.

Inter will be without centre-back Francesco Acerbi and holding midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, both of whom came off during the 1-0 win over Roma last week.

Simone Inzaghi has confirmed that Kristjan Asllani is back in training and could potentially replace Calhanoglu depending on how he feels on the day, if not, Nicolo Barella or Piotr Zielinski are expected to start in the middle of the Nerazzurri midfield.

Carlos Augusto is also out of the Juventus game, and while Tajon Buchanan is nearing a return from his long-term injury, the Bianconeri clash is expected to be one too soon.

For Juventus, €50m summer signing Teun Koopmeiners is likely to still be unavailable. Saturday’s reports suggest that Nicolo Fagioli is the most likely candidate to start in the advanced midfield role, over Kenan Yildiz who is most likely to start out on the left-wing.

Nico Gonzalez is also expected to be missing, which could mean a start for Francisco Conceicao out on the right wing. Douglas Luiz is also a doubt for Thiago Motta, while Gleison Bremer and Arkadiusz Milik remain out with long-term injuries.

Inter and Juventus form and results so far

Inter sit in second in the Serie A table with Juventus just behind them in third. Juve are also just one point off their rivals, and are the only team who are still unbeaten in Serie A.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have picked up five wins, two draws and one loss from their eight league matches so far in 2024-25. The loss came against rivals Milan in the Derby della Madonnina in September, but the Nerazzurri have won all three of their Serie A matches since then, including a 1-0 win away against Roma last weekend.

Juventus, meanwhile, have four wins and four draws at the start of the 2024-25 campaign. Thiago Motta’s men started the season with convincing 3-0 victories against Como and Verona, but were then held to three consecutive 0-0 draws against Roma, Empoli and Napoli.

Juve have since gone on to pick up wins over Genoa and Lazio, with a 1-1 draw with Caglairi squeezed in between.

Like their overall points tallies, Inter and Juventus are separated by just one point in the form guide as well. The Nerazzurri have picked up 10 points over their last five league outings, while the Bianconeri have nine over the same period.

Inter and Juventus head-to-head record

This will be the 183rd meeting between the two sides in Serie A. The first came all the way back in October 1923, which resulted in a 2-0 win for the Bianconeri.

Juventus have won 87 of their 182 previous matches against Inter. The Nerazzurri have 49 wins, while 46 games have ended in draws.

Referee: Marco Guida

43-year-old Marco Guida has been appointed as the referee who will take charge of Sunday’s Derby d’Italia.

He was most recently in action for Atletico Madrid’s 3-1 loss LOSC Lille in the Champions League. During that game, he gave an extremely controversial penalty in favour of Lille while the scores were level at 1-1, which led Diego Simeone to suggest that he must have been ‘hallucinating’ at the time of the decision.
