Former Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu made his Manchester United debut in the FA Cup this evening, but while fans were impressed, they criticised him being played out of position.

The 20-year-old made the transfer to Old Trafford after several weeks of negotiations, as Lecce finally caved to the offer worth €30m plus another €5m in various bonuses.

He’d had a great campaign at Lecce, contributing three goals and an assist in 21 Serie A appearances, but playing in his natural position down the left.

Fans were excited when Ruben Amorim announced that Dorgu was in the starting XI for tonight’s FA Cup match against Leicester City, but then bemused upon realising he’d be on the right flank instead.

The former Lecce man impressed with his lightning pace and won six duels in the first half, more than any other player on the pitch, but was hauled off at half-time with Manchester United trailing 1-0.

Supporters reacted angrily and blamed coach Amorim for throwing the new signing into the mix in the wrong position, wondering why the hunt for a left-sided wing-back had even been such a big part of their January transfer strategy.
