The Sun‘s “Chelsea files” this week has plenty of juicy stuff for us to settle into of a Tuesday.

First on the agenda is Nicolas Jackson. The striker is public enemy number one this week for many Chelsea fans after getting a silly first half red against Newcastle which pretty much guaranteed us a defeat, did huge damage to our chances of making the Champions League places, and got him banned for our two final league games of the season.

Despite that, the Files record that Jackson “he did not feel the need to apologise and the management have not asked for one.” Chelsea were losing when he was sent off, which is seen as significant.

Chelsea management convinced striker “still learning”

Nicolas Jackson red card against Newcastle.

When speaking after the game on Sunday, Enzo Maresca certainly seemed frustrated, but not seething. We’re not surprised they’ve all tried to move on from the incident. Jackson was at Cobham 24 hours after the incident, presumably for some sort of post-match conditioning and warm-down.

The “top brass” at Chelsea apparently believe that Jackson is “still learning the art of self discipline” after two years in the Premier League, and are convinced “it will come in time.”

We wish we shared their optimism.

Jackson set for Conference League final start – some will miss out

As we suspected, Jackson is keen to make amends in the Conference League final in a few weeks, the first game he’s not banned for. It makes sense to use him, as he’s our only striker. But it’s another reminder that when it comes to picking that team, many of the players who got us to that final are going to miss out.

That’s life, unfortunately, but there are some really tough decisions for Maresca to make ahead of the game in Wroclaw.
