BBC Sport reported on Monday that the Sky Blues were targeting a move for the Swans midfielder, and have already seen two bids for the 29-year-old rejected, but FLW can now reveal that in order to land his services, Frank Lampard's club will have to pay £3.5m.

Swansea issue Coventry with Grimes asking price

The Sky Blues are keen on a move for Grimes, while the asking price set by the Swans demonstrates their intent to either retain their key man, or cash in on a handsome transfer fee for a player whose contract expires in 2027.

Meanwhile, Coventry are yet to make any additions since the appointment of new boss Lampard in November, while club owner Doug King will be keen to back the former England star in the transfer market, following the controversial sacking of popular manager Mark Robins.

Furthermore, the West Midlands outfit sit just six points below the play-off spots, following a three-game winning streak in which they have defeated fellow top-six chasers Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Watford.

The way in which Grimes dictates play in a Swans shirt demonstrates that he would be an ideal asset for Lampard's men, amid their quest for the play-offs.

Meanwhile, intriguingly, the Swans take on the Sky Blues in their next Championship game on Saturday, but their current club captain Grimes could be turning out for the opposition, if King is willing to stump up the £3.5m fee.

Grimes would be a big loss for Swansea

While the Englishman could be a top signing for the Sky Blues, he would also be a major loss for the South Wales outfit, who arguably need him more than ever.

The Swans currently sit seven points above the relegation zone, and have not managed a win since defeating current bottom-three side Luton Town on 29th December.

Grimes has been one of Swansea's star players ever since returning from a loan spell with Northampton Town back in 2018, and now would not be a good time for boss Luke Williams to lose his captain, especially with less than a week of the transfer window to go.
