Victor Lindelof is set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
United are preparing for a major overhaul of their current squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. However, they’ll be operating under financial constraints, with spending limited by the need to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
One way for Amorim to acquire players who suit his preferred 3-4-3 formation is through sales and summer exits.
The likes of Antony, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are all poised to be made available for sale. Others like Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are expected to depart upon the expiry of their contracts. Another who falls in the latter category is Lindelof.
United forked out £31m to pry Lindelof away from Benfica back in 2017. He has been a loyal servant to the Red Devils and is currently in his eighth season at the club.
In recent times however, the Swede has been forced to be content with a bit-part role and it seems his time at Old Trafford has finally come to an end.
According to Romano, Lindelof and United have elected to separate once the 2024/25 campaign concludes.
The Italian journalist wrote on X, “EXCL: Victor Lindelöf and Man United have decided to part ways at the end of the season.”
“Decision made following meeting this week as Lindelöf has proposals from Italy and Spain, ready for new chapter.”
“The Swedish defender will leave as free agent.”
A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Benfica are keen on a reunion with Lindelof.
The 30-year-old has made 24 appearances across all competitions this term.
