Former Premier League goalkeeper makes prediction over Chelsea’s “brilliant” talisman

Shay Given played hundreds of Premier League games as a goalkeeper, so he’s a real authority there, and we’ve already covered his thoughts on Chelsea’s issues in that area earlier today.
But Given also had some thoughts on our outfield issues, with Cole Palmer’s current struggles his particular focus. The former Newcastle keeper explained his thoughts on the midfielder’s slump:
“It shows he is human because his time at Chelsea has mainly been on an upward trajectory. He has gone through a bit of a dip, there is no way of getting away from that, and his confidence is low. It is a rough patch but I have no doubt that he will come back with vengeance because he is a brilliant player.”
We’d go one further than that – Palmer’s time at Chelsea wasn’t just on an upward trajectory, it was totally stratospheric. He went from a relative unknown to one of the faces of the Premier League in a short space of time. Literally everything he did on the pitch seemed to come off. Whenever that magical run ended, it was always sure to be a bump landing, and that missed penalty on Sunday felt like rock bottom.

We’ve all been impressed by Palmer’s mentality and iconic ice cold demeanour. We’ve seen nothing else from him since he arrived at the club 18 months ago. So to see him suddenly looking lost and unsure is quite the shock.
This whole time it’s felt like he just needs a shot to go in to be restored – it’s just not happening for him right now. But with seriously tough games coming up, we need him back to his best sooner rather than later.
