Dermot Gallagher looking at what happened during a big moment in this very eventful game at St James’ Park.

This particular ‘controversial’ moment happened when Newcastle United were trailing 2-1.

Dermot Gallagher talking to Sky Sports about this Newcastle v Wolves controversial incident:

‘On to Newcastle against Bournemouth and the away side had a goal ruled out as the ball had gone out of play in the build-up.

However, last week we saw Arsenal score from a corner they shouldn’t have been given.

Does that then raises the question why can VAR intervene with a factual decision here, but not there?’

DERMOT GALLAGHER:

“It’s an excellent use of VAR because the assistant couldn’t see across the pitch like that.

“The difference here [from Arsenal], is a goal was scored.

“Once that happens, VAR can go back and check and if there’s an offense in the build-up and that was a ball out of play.

“There’s no time limit to phases of play, but the certainty is that ball did go out of play and it had to be a corner.”
