Former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is backing the club to win the Europa League this season despite labelling their Premier League campaign “shocking”.
Spurs sit 14th in the league following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham but are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League are progressing past AZ Alkmaar.
Redknapp will manage a South England FC side at Charlton Athletic’s The Valley on Sunday June 1, taking on a North England FC team managed by former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler.

And speaking at an event promoting the match, Redknapp told Hayters TV about his former club: “They’ve been disappointing, there’s no doubt about that.
“It’s been a shocking season. They could get out of trouble by winning the Europa League.
“I don’t think that should be a door into the Champions League personally. I think the FA Cup winners should go into the Champions League and then maybe people will take the FA Cup more seriously again.
“But they could get into the Champions League through that and it’s a competition Tottenham should be winning with that squad.
“At the start of the year they were favourites. They’ll be looking at the teams in it and you don’t see anybody in it that’s top draw, it’s not like a Bayern Munich or Real Madrid. They’re all teams that are fifth or sixth in their leagues in other countries.
“Tottenham have got the best squad in that and in my opinion should certainly go on and win it so hopefully they will.”
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is facing considerable pressure following a disappointing campaign but Redknapp says he wants the Australian manager to do well.
“No but I didn’t finish 15th,” he responded when it was posed to him that he did not face the same pressure as Postecoglou did back when he was in charge.
“I was never 15th, I was always there or thereabouts the top four.
“They’ve not performed this year. It’s been a terrible season for them.
“I like Ange and I want to see him do well. I’d like to see him win this cup and if he does that it will give him time next year to hopefully do better in the league and the other competitions.
“If he doesn’t I’m sure he’ll come under severe pressure. I don’t want to see that but it will happen.”
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has also come under fire from supporters but Redknapp believes he has done a good job.
“He’s done a fantastic job,” he said. “What can they do? They’ve spent money, he’s built a fantastic stadium, incredible training ground, it’s all there.
“They’ve spent money on the team. They’ve gone out and spent. Have a look, they’ve all been bought. They’re all big money players. Solanke was £60m.
“They’ve spent money. Unfortunately it’s not worked out for them. The recruitment maybe hasn’t been great in certain cases but they’ve still got a squad there really that should be challenging.
“I looked at their squad at the start of the year and said they are certain to finish top four.
“They’ve had injuries and they’re nowhere near top four unfortunately but winning this cup would hide a multitude of sins really if they could do it.”
