AC Milan were so close to winning a third derby in a row against their rivals Inter, but ultimately suffered late heartbreak and had to settle for a draw.
Milan went into the break a goal ahead thanks to Tijjani Reijnders’ goal from close range after Rafael Leao had a cross parried, but Stefan De Vrij popped up in the 93rd minute to equalise and ensure it ended 1-1.
It means lost ground on Fiorentina and Juventus who each won earlier on Sunday, but in truth it was not a result Milan can feel too gutted about given Inter hit the post three times and conducted a siege in the second half.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “At the last gasp. What a Sunday. Inter level against Milan in the 93rd minute. Reijnders opens the derby, three posts, Inzaghi’s anger: ‘We should have had a penalty’.”
Corriere dello Sport: “All in the final minutes: Inter comeback against Milan. Roma catch the leaders. De Vrij avoids another defeat and the Spaniard blocks Napoli.”
Tuttosport: “Milan: dream interrupted, the exorcist De Vrij emerges. Draw in minute 93 after hitting the woodwork three times and having a penalty denied.”
QS: “Derby, a heart-pounding show. Milan-Inter 1-1 at the end of the match: Reijnders first, De Vrij already 93′.”
