Barcelona fans are in for a big evening as their team gets ready to lift the La Liga trophy after their game against Villarreal on Sunday.

The title was sealed with a convincing win in the Catalan derby over Espanyol, giving the players a reason to celebrate before the final whistle this weekend.

Under Hansi Flick, this has been a successful season for the team. Alongside the La Liga title, Flick has already added two more trophies to the cabinet – the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey.

However, the team’s exit from the Champions League in the semi-final still leaves a bitter taste. Despite the domestic dominance, missing out in Europe is something that the club and fans hoped would be different.

As Barcelona prepare to host Villarreal, Flick is expected to make some changes to his starting lineup. He has not confirmed the final XI just yet, but with the league wrapped up and a packed schedule behind them, some fresh faces are likely to get minutes.

The manager admitted that he is thinking of rotating the squad not only to rest key players but also to reward others who have worked hard throughout the campaign.

On that note, let’s break down how Barcelona might shape up against Villarreal.

Defence

Between the sticks, Marc-Andre ter Stegen could get another chance to ease back into full fitness. The German goalkeeper recently returned from injury and is expected to start, giving fans a chance to cheer for their captain at home.

In defence, Inigo Martinez is likely to slot back into the side after missing the Espanyol game due to suspension. He could line up next to Andreas Christensen at centre-back.

With both Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde ruled out, young full-backs Hector Fort and Alejandro Balde are expected to take the roles on either side. This match offers them a good opportunity to shine, especially with less pressure and more freedom.

Midfield

In midfield, Flick might give minutes to Fermin Lopez and Gavi. While both have dealt with injury concerns, this game could offer them a chance to find rhythm before the summer break.

The big question is whether Marc Casado is ready to start. If not, Frenkie de Jong will likely take over in the holding midfield role.

De Jong’s calm presence would help balance the midfield, especially if some of the youngsters are included. This means Pedri will finally get much-deserved rest.

Attack

In attack, Robert Lewandowski remains focused on finishing the season strong. The Polish striker has scored 25 goals in the league so far and is chasing Kylian Mbappe, who has 28.

With two games left, Lewandowski will try to close the gap and fight for the top scorer title. Against Villarreal, he will lead the line once again.

Due to Ferran Torres’ absence following surgery for appendicitis and Raphinha’s need for rest, the wide positions are likely to be filled by Lamine Yamal and Ansu Fati. Both wingers offer speed, creativity, and hunger, qualities that could trouble Villarreal’s defence.
