Legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has on Tuesday moved to reveal his appreciation for a one-time member of the attacking ranks at Barcelona.

The player in question? Neymar Jr.

Shot-stopper Buffon for his part spent a solitary season lining out alongside Neymar, in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

And the Brazilian, across this stint, evidently did enough to leave his mark…

Speaking during an interview with Italian outlet Corriere della Sera on Monday, Buffon was asked to name the best player whom he shared the pitch with across his near-30-year career.

And the 46-year-old went on to point towards Neymar, going as far as to claim that, had circumstances been a little different, the ex-Barcelona and PSG standout could have secured as many as five Ballons d’Or.

In quotes gathered by Fabrizio Romano, Buffon explained:

“The best player I’ve played with… I’d say Neymar Jr. In my opinion, he deserved to win five Ballons d’Or. I had the chance to share the pitch with Zidane, Ronaldo, Messi and more… but Ney was a really special guy and player.”
