Santiago Gimenez made his AC Milan debut last night against Roma and announced himself in a great way, setting up Joao Felix for the third goal.

Just before the hour mark in the 3-1 Coppa Italia victory, Sergio Conceicao brought on two of the winter signings as Gimenez replaced Tammy Abraham – who had scored a brace – while Joao Felix took the place of Christian Pulisic.

Felix and Gimenez made an instant impact, linking up with each other and their new team-mates very well. In the 72nd minute, the Mexican dropped deeper and played a wonderful through ball to Felix, who timed his run to perfection and lifted the ball over Svilar with a cheeky dink.

It was the kind of goal that the over 55,000 Milan fans present had been hoping to see, and it certainly provides an appetiser in terms of what might be to come from the dynamic duo.

Gimenez spoke to the journalist Andersinho Marques after the game in the mixed done and he offered his thoughts after a very successful San Siro debut in terms of result and his own contribution.

“It was a very good match, I think the team was playing very well. I really wanted to play, I was very motivated. Thank God I played my first minutes and I am very happy. In the end the goals will come, the important thing is to win,” he said.

“I think the team looks very good, I am very excited for what’s to come because we have a great team and we can do great things. I identify myself as a soldier of Christ. I want to have this responsibility because he gives me his love, I know that great things will come.”
