“Good option for Chelsea” – Top scout backs Blues to make right in problem position

Chelsea’s goalkeeping situation is a mess, for the second year in a row.

Last year Robert Sanchez lost his starting place to Djordje Petrovic mid-season. But bizarrely the club then loaned out Petrovic in the summer and gave Sanchez another go. He’s now lost his place a second time, and Filip Jorgensen is our first choice for now.

There doesn’t seem to be a huge amount of faith in him as a potential number one however, and the links to other players continue. Liverpool goalie Caoimhin Kelleher is a name that comes up a lot, and today there are some interesting quotes on Football Insider from respected scout Mick Brown backing us to go for broke and sign the Reds’ talented second choice.

“They’re looking at Kelleher from Liverpool. I think he’s a very good goalkeeper and would be a good option for Chelsea,” Brown said

“Whenever he’s called upon, he can put in a run of really impressive performances, and never looks like it’s just a flash in the pan, that’s just his level. If he’s out of favour at Liverpool, as it looks like he will be with the new man coming in, I can see him wanting to move on.”

Chelsea need a good option right away

Whatever Chelsea do, they know they need to finally secure an option who can actually be relied upon for the next few years. We keep hearing about how much the sporting directors rate Mike Penders, the young Belgian they bought last summer, but he’s surely a few years away from being ready for the Premier League, and we can’t afford to spend that time with second rate stoppers.

Jorgensen plays tonight, and all eyes are on him.
