We took a look at how the attendance on Friday night at Elland Road compared to the rest of the division

Elland Road was at its best on Friday night as Leeds United recorded a 2-0 win over Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United in a result that made the rest of the league sit up and take notice.

Leeds is always a tough place to visit for opposition sides, and when Elland Road was as raucous as it was on Friday, it really is like a 12th man for Daniel Farke's side.

Similarly to their 3-1 win over Leicester City last season on a Friday night, the atmosphere at the ground was electric, and it undoubtedly inspired the Whites to a big win.

It's well-documented that Leeds' support is fanatical, and they have a fanbase larger than plenty of Premier League clubs, making it no issue to sell out Elland Road these days.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at the attendance at Elland Road on Friday night and how it compares with the rest of the division.

The attendance at Elland Road for Friday's game between Leeds United and Sheffield United was 36,695, by far the highest attendance in the division this weekend.

That won't come as a particular surprise to anybody, and it was a huge 8,000 people more than the second-best attendance of the weekend, with that also coming in Yorkshire, as 28,105 people turned up at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday fell to defeat against Burnley.

The 36,695 crowd at Leeds was over 25,000 more than the smallest crowd in the division, with 11,453 people in attendance at the Kassam Stadium as Oxford United drew with West Brom.

The second smallest came at Luton Town as they smashed Watford in front of just 11,758. Of course, if Kenilworth Road was bigger there would certainly have been more supporters in attendance for a game of that magnitude, but their small ground means they attract some of the smallest crowds in the division.

There were three crowds of over 20,000 at Cardiff, Middlesbrough and Stoke, but none anywhere near the huge 36,695 people that were at Leeds on Friday night.

Leeds are back in home action on Tuesday night when they host Watford, and they'll be looking for a similar sized crowd at Elland Road.

Leeds United's support has been incredible this season

Leeds United's support has been incredible this season, and every single game has attracted over 35,000.

All of their league games have attracted crowds of over 36,000, while a first round EFL Cup tie brought in a crowd of 35,150.

This means it's incredibly hard to get tickets for a Leeds game this season, and if Elland Road were to be expanded, the club would undoubtedly be able to sell more than 36,000 tickets.

Leeds have had the best crowds in the Championship this season, and that will continue to be the case while they're flying high in the upper echelons of the table.
