Liverpool manager Arne Slot used two Manchester City forwards as examples to his squad in the early stages of the current campaign as the Reds went on to claim the Premier League title in the Dutchman’s first year in England.

The Merseyside club have finally dethroned Manchester City and have done it in Slot’s first time of asking after a strong start to their campaign put them in the driver’s seat to bring the Premier League title back to Anfield after four years of City keeping hold of the trophy.

Slot has received huge plaudits for an incredible achievement, particularly given the weight of expectation on the Dutchman’s shoulders when he came in and picked up the mantle from legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, who spent nine years at Anfield and led the Reds to a Premier League and UEFA Champions League title.

Klopp was a friendly foe of Guardiola’s – owing to their managerial rivalry going as far back into the early 2010s when the pair managed the top two sides in Germany in Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively.

Slot has set the bar high for himself and the Liverpool squad after leading them all the way in the Premier League title race this season and with a busy transfer window ahead at the Etihad Stadium, it will be interesting to see how Manchester City bounce back in their attempts to reclaim the Premier League crown next season.

In a report by Paul Joyce writing for The Times, it has been revealed how Slot used two Manchester City forwards as an example to his Liverpool squad in getting a message through on how he wanted to press from the front and desired his attackers to work hard.

Slot pointed to Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Savinho to show what he demanded from his Liverpool players in terms of work rate and whilst City went on to fall significantly short of their own standards set over the years under Guardiola, this is testament to the work ethic instilled in his ranks by the Manchester City manager.

Legendary English football manager Neil Warnock recently spent a day at Manchester City’s training facilities and the 76-year-old was impressed with some of the best players in world football doing the basics and working hard in training as showered praise on Guardiola and his squad in an interview with talkSPORT.

Manchester City have a crucial few months ahead and major incomings and outgoings are in the offing for the 2023 treble winners, who are trying to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White to replace the outgoing Kevin De Bruyne.

Guardiola is also keen on adding a full-back to his ranks as Kyle Walker remains almost certain to leave Manchester City on a permanent deal when he returns from his loan spell at AC Milan, whom he joined in January after a difficult first half of the season.

Slot will be wary of the threat posed by the Premier League’s most successful club in the last decade as Manchester City look to rest and recover over the summer and go all out to win the Premier League back from the Reds.
