Manchester City need a positive result as they host Bournemouth in the Premier League this evening.
Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves in a huge fight just to secure Champions League football, with it not inconceivable that the club fail to qualify for Europe’s top-tier competition.
City sit sixth in the table as it stands but this is their game in hand on the teams above, and victory would lift them into third in the table.
Defeat, though, and they will be relying on favours from the likes of Newcastle, Chelsea and Aston Villa on the final day of the season this weekend.
There is also the added factor of City having to bounce back from FA Cup disappointment, after they were beaten in the final by Crystal Palace on Saturday.
That means they will finish the season without a trophy and must now ensure they earn a top-five spot to avoid the campaign being a complete disaster.
Bournemouth are not out of the hunt for European football themselves, though Palace’s win at Wembley has hurt their chances.
A win tonight and the Cherries will move up to ninth in the table in what has been another hugely impressive season.
