Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he is waiting for supporters to hand him an invite for a drink at a local pub, speaking during a recent media conference.
While the ongoing 2024/25 season has been one largely of disappointing for the four-in-a-row Premier League champions, there is still plenty of work for Manchester City to do in the final weeks of the campaign.
Three matches remain in Premier League action for the club including away trips to Southampton and Fulham, while Bournemouth will be the final visitors to the Etihad Stadium in the competition – a night that will also mark Kevin De Bruyne’s final home match for City.
And while much of the season has brought an element of disappointment for both management staff and the Manchester City players, there could yet be reason to celebrate for all involved with an FA Cup final on the horizon.
Pep Guardiola and his players make the journey south to Wembley Stadium for the final stage of the competition for a third consecutive season, as they take on Crystal Palace on Saturday 17 May for the last piece of major silverware available in English football this season.
Speaking during his latest round of media duties, Pep Guardiola was keen to issue significant praise on the work done by his managerial counterpart at Wolves in Vitor Pereira to save the Molineux side from the threat of relegation this season.
“Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. And I think the previous manager, always is an excellent manager. They beat us last season, playing really well defensively, in the transition,” Guardiola said.
“Sometimes you make a click, you don’t know why sometimes it works, but I’m pretty sure [Vitor] Pereira is an experienced manager, did an incredible job,” he continued.
“And always I said the feeling is always Wolves have had exceptional players, playing at high levels in previous teams and always they are good.”
Pep Guardiola was also informed of Pereira’s habit of joining Wolves fans at a nearby pub after wins for the club, and was asked whether it was something he would consider alongside Manchester City supporters.
“Oh yeah?! Ah, that’s good,” Guardiola said, before stating of Manchester City fans, “I’m waiting for the offer… I like wine, but I will take a beer as well in that period. I didn’t know it – good.”
Manchester City’s competitive action and potential to celebrate success will continue into the summer this year too, as they compete in the maiden edition of the revamped and expanded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
