Speaking in a press conference ahead of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League clash against Lille tomorrow evening (21:00 CET), French defender Ibrahima Konaté revealed that Liverpool have offered him a new contract, but gave little indication on how close he is to signing on a new deal. “It’s true, I’ve been offered a new contract by Liverpool,” said Konaté in front of the press. “Am I close to signing it? That’s another conversation.”Fabrizio Romano adds that an agreement on the new deal remains close, and that all parties are confident that they can get the contract extension over the line. In reference to Romano’s original report several months ago that talks had begun to extend a contract, Konaté said “Who talked about that a few months ago? The club didn’t say anything, I didn’t say anything, it’s one person that says that. I was not ready, I didn’t know when he said that but after I spoke with the club. But after, we’ll see what will happen.”The French international’s current deal expires in June 2026, after he joined the club from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021. Konaté is currently in his fourth season at the club, and has become a regular for Les Bleus, having made 21 caps since his debut in 2022 for Didier Deschamps’ side. GFFN | George Boxall
