‘I’ll go to Liverpool and give my all’ – Giorgi Mamardashvili relishing competition with Alisson for number one goalkeeper spot

Incoming Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has revealed he will not leave the club on loan next season.
Having established himself as one of the best shot stoppers in world football, Mamardashvili was signed for €30 million from Valencia last summer.
However, he spent the entire season on loan at the Mestalla Stadium, making 33 league appearances for Valencia.
As the 24-year-old prepares to team up with his new employers this summer, he has no plans of going out on loan and is relishing competing with Alisson Becker for a starting berth.
“I’ll go to Liverpool and give my all, just like I did at Valencia,” Mamardashvili said.
“The main thing is patience, training and hard work, and everything else will come by itself.
“I think it will be good – training with [Alisson] will help me grow too, and I will gain a lot of experience with him.”
Mamardashvili also confirmed Liverpool have been in constant contact with him since signing for them, and the Reds are counting on him for the future.
“They are looking at me as the Liverpool goalkeeper for the next ten years,” he added.
“Yes, they have even visited several times – we spoke to Liverpool, and they give you a lot of attention.”
Given Alisson is still performing at such a high level, it is unlikely he will be relieved of his duty as number one next season.
However, Mamardashvili has shown he is not afraid of competition, having had to work his way up the pecking order at Valencia.
Due to the impending arrival of Mamardashvili, Caoimhin Kelleher could be on his way out of Anfield, with his already limited game time set to reduce further next season.
