Chelsea could momentarily go top of the league if they beat Everton on Sunday with Liverpool kicking off after their game has finished.

Fernandez relishing new role

Fernandez cost Chelsea £106m back in January 2023 and after an impressive first six months he struggled last season as he played the majority of the campaign with a hernia issue.

After being marred by an off field incident after Argentina won the Copa America in the summer Fernandez had a mixed start to the campaign, which resulted in him losing his place in the starting line-up for four games.

However, after being restored to the line-up against Leicester after the November international break the 23-year-old has been in superb form.

Fernandez has been in superb form since the November international break.

Former Blue Glen Johnson feels Fernandez is playing the best football since he arrived at Chelsea, and it’s hard to argue against that.

The World Cup winner has three goals and three assists in the last five league games and seems to be thriving in a different role.

Fernandez opened up about the role in an interview and explained exactly what Maresca is expecting from him in it.

“Right now, I’m being asked to play a bit closer to the box, with the opportunity to score or assist my team-mates,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s a nice thing and I like the position a lot.”
