Former Inter Milan midfielder Evaristo Beccalossi backs the Nerazzurri to defend the Scudetto but sees Atalanta and Napoli as viable contenders.
Speaking to Tutti Convocati via FCInter1908, Beccalossi named Simone Inzaghi’s charges as the leading Serie A title favorites.
Goals from Alessandro Bastoni, Lautaro Martinez, and Hakan Calhanoglu guided Inter to a dominant 3-0 win at Cagliari last weekend.
It was Inter’s fifth consecutive league victory without conceding.
More importantly, they took advantage of Atalanta’s slump at Lazio to whittle down the gap to one point.
Despite finishing the calendar year in third, the reigning champions still have a game in hand on the leading duo.
Therefore, they remain in the driver’s seat to add to their glittering trophy cabinet after winning a landmark 20th title last term.
“Atalanta is no longer a surprise but a solid reality. Napoli is on a great path,” Beccalossi stated.
“Then, of course, it’s clear that Inter has something extra, but in football, you can never say never.
“There’s a reason why these three teams are at the top.”
Lautaro Martinez halted his scoring drought at the Unipol Domus, whereas his partner Marcus Thuram fired a blank.
However, they’ve been contrasting figures this season.
Thuram has soaked up the limelight as Inter’s most prolific player at the expense of El Toro.
But Beccalossi believes they co-exist in a perfect symbiosis.
“Lautaro? He’s never a problem,” he added.
“And we have to acknowledge that a big part of Thuram’s total breakthrough is thanks to Lautaro: he’s playing a different kind of game compared to previous years.
“We’ve always evaluated him for his goals, but now he’s showing that even without scoring, he works incredibly hard.
“He has embraced the spirit of the captain: goals are important for a striker, but he’s a complete player.
“The key is that either he or Thuram scores.
“I’ve never liked too many changes.
“Inter has a strong squad, so it’s essential to have a base plan and then manage the players accordingly.
“Going back to Lautaro, you can see the trust he has in his teammates: this is the group’s real strength.
“What stands out about this team is how everyone moves in the same direction.”
