On Saturday 8 March at 20:45 CET, Inter will face Monza at San Siro on matchday 28 in Serie A. The Nerazzurri are currently top of the table with 58 points, one more than Napoli. They have scored 60 goals and conceded 25. It will be the sixth fixture in Serie A between the two sides with the Nerazzurri leading the previous fixtures: two wins, two draws and one win for Monza.
The Nerazzurri come to the game on an impeccable home run: three consecutive home wins and the chance to make it four in a row. These are big numbers for Simone Inzaghi's side who boast the best attack in the league and have picked up 12 clean sheets, less only than Juventus. One of Inter's strengths is the high press: with six goals scored from offensive recoveries, no side has done better (equal to Napoli). Moreover, the Nerazzurri rule the standings for possession in Serie A with an average of 59.7% and have scored through the highest number of different players: 17.
The Nerazzurri captain has a special relationship with Monza: five league goals in five games. Only against Salernitana does he have a better goal-to-minute ratio. Moreover, Lautaro has become the first foreign Inter player in history to have scored at least 10 goals in six consecutive Serie A seasons. In the last four home games, he has featured on the scoresheet three times.
The Turkish midfielder will have a special memory connected to Monza: on 13 January 2024, he scored his first Serie A brace against the Brianzoli. With one goal, he would reach the milestone of 50 in the league, becoming the first Turk to do so in the competition.
The Dutchman has already scored against Monza this season and totalled 16 goals in Serie A. With six goals on the board so far this season, he has broken his personal record. No foreign defender has scored more in an Inter shirt, he has equalled Maicon on 16.
Monza, coached by Alessandro Nesta, are currently last on 14 points. They have picked up two wins, eight draws and 17 defeats. They have scored 21 goals and conceded 45. In the last month, the Brianzoli have played five league games, drawing to Lecce at home and suffering defeats to Verona, Lazio, Roma and Torino. Nesta will most likely field a 3-4-2-1 formation with Turati between the sticks, D'Ambrosio, Izzo and Palacios in defence, Pereira, Bianco, Zeroli, Kyriakopoulos in the midfield, and Ciurria and Keita behind Ganvoula. Carboni, Caprari, Gagliardini and Sensi are all out. There are doubts about the availability of Caldirola and Akpa Akpro.
