Simone Inzaghi says Yann Sommer will start against Feyenoord tomorrow, while Marcus Thuram is on painkillers and Mehdi Taremi could also start.
The Inter Milan coach spoke about the players’ situations in a press conference ahead of tomorrow’s match, as reported by FCInterNews.
Inter Milan take on Feyenoord tomorrow in the Champions League.
And Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will have a lot to consider as far as his starting eleven for tomorrow’s match.
First and foremost, Inter will need to ensure that they get the result they need.
Inter won the first leg of their round of sixteen tie 2-0. But there’s still an entire second leg for them to play.
But then, Inzaghi will also have to consider next weekend’s Serie A clash with Atalanta.
And there is also the matter of injuries and player fitness to consider. Inter have quite a few issues that have piled up over the last few weeks as they have been stretched thin by the number of matches they’ve played.
Goalkeeper Yann Sommer has been on the sidelines for Inter’s last few matches. Josep Martinez has started in his place while he’s recovered from a thumb fracture.
“As far as Sommer, he’ll play tomorrow,” Inzaghi made clear.

“Yann is back. He’s a goalkeeper who’s been with us for a season and a half, and he’s done great things so far, and will keep doing so.”
Inzaghi then commented that “Martinez has played the last few matches and done very well.”
“I’d like if I had this kind of a choice to make in the other positions as well,” the Inter coach admitted.
“Then as far as Taremi, he’s working hard to try and give us a hand.”
“He’s looking very good to me in training,” Inzaghi said of the Iranian international striker. “He’s focused, fitting in well with the group.”
“Then, he’s a striker. He’s looking for his goal, and tomorrow could be a great opportunity for him.”
As far as striker Marcus Thuram’s fitness after a persistent ankle problem, meanwhile, Inzaghi admitted that “I’d have liked to have had him do some physical training.”
“That would mean he’s in good condition. But over the last month he hasn’t been able to do much, due to a small injury issue he’s been dealing with.”
“I’m evaluating whether to start him tomorrow, or have him on the bench,” Inzaghi said of Thuram.
“He’s a very important player for us. And his decline has only been due to his ankle problem.”
Inzaghi called Thuram a “great professional.”
Inzaghi said that “With Thuram there’s no point hiding it.”
“He’s been struggling for a month with a problem that hasn’t allowed him to train like he did before.”

“He’s been playing on painkillers,” Inzaghi said of the Frenchman.
“He’s a player who doesn’t hold back. He gives us a big hand, and we have to evaluated him.”
Inzaghi noted that Marcus Thuram “played sixty minutes in Rotterdam. Then on Saturday he started on the bench.”
“Today has had a good training session, tomorrow I’ll evaluate him.”
“Correa isn’t available,” Inzaghi added. The Argentine isn’t on Inter’s Champions League squad list. “But the other four strikers are.”
“Tomorrow we’ll see about Lautaro, but there shouldn’t be any problems with his availability.”
