Derby County are weighing up moves for Blackburn Rovers duo Andreas Weimann and Danny Batth this summer.

It has been exclusively revealed by FLW that John Eustace is keen to reunite with the pair this transfer window in a bid to improve his first team squad at Pride Park.

The 45-year-old worked with both at Ewood Park prior to his move to the Rams in February and is now keen on bringing them with him to the club.

They are both out of contract with Rovers at the end of June, so will be free to discuss terms with Derby over a potential move, but could yet stay with Valerien Ismael’s side if an extension agreement can be reached.

When asked about Batth and Weimann potentially departing for Derby, FLW’s Blackburn fan pundit Simon Middlehurst claimed that it’s unsurprising this link has emerged.

However, he is confident that the pair will both turn down interest in reuniting with Eustace in favour of staying at the Lancashire outfit.

“I think it’s completely normal that two out of contract players get linked with ex-managers, it always happens, especially this time of year,” Middlehurst told Football League World.

“I’d be really keen to see both players stay at Blackburn.

“At the minute, Andi Weimann is actually training at Blackburn, rehab for injury, and he’s actually come out and said that he’d like to stay at Blackburn another year at least.

“He’s a bit of a cult hero after the goal he scored against Burnley at the start of the season.

“Danny Batth is another one, I actually think both players will stay.

“Valerien Ismael has come out and said he wants to keep the majority of the squad from last season, and add players to it, he doesn’t want to lose anyone.

“Obviously that’s bound to happen and that’s football, so I generally think that both players will stay at Blackburn.

“At the end of last season, they started picking up performances and wins, we only missed out by a couple of points on the play-offs.

“I think a full pre-season under a manager, he’s already visioned out, already said what he wants to do next season and pre-season, so I’m pretty certain, I’m confident that both players will stay at Blackburn.”

Weimann and Batth both have a role to play at Blackburn

Weimann and Batth were both regular fixtures in the Blackburn squad last season, so they will be players Ismael will want to keep around.

They both bring valuable experience to the squad, and have shown they can still compete at a Championship level.

Keeping them around another year will maintain a stable squad for Ismael, which he seems keen on this summer.

The team narrowly missed out on a play-off place last season, so shouldn’t need a major overhaul, so keeping this duo around for 12 more months is a sensible plan, if they can be convinced to stay.
