Finding a midfielder who can step in and contribute straight away remains a major priority for Manchester City in the current transfer window. So far the Premier League champions are yet to sign a midfielder. But it now appears that a potential loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz may be on the cards. That move has the potential to be a shrewd piece of business for Manchester City.

David Ornstein has reported for the Athletic that Manchester City are considering a loan move for Douglas Luiz. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that City are currently interested in a loan move for the Juventus midfielder. But Juventus would prefer to sell Luiz or include an obligation-to-buy option in any loan deal for the Brazilian midfielder.

James Ducker has also reported for the Telegraph that Manchester City are exploring a loan deal for Douglas Luiz. Ducker further reports that the Brazilian midfielder isn’t considered City’s first option to strengthen their midfield. But City’s need to sign a midfielder may force their hand to pursue a move for Douglas Luiz.

Manchester City’s need to sign a midfielder is well-known. They are in desperate need of a midfielder to aid their cause for the remainder of this season. As a temporary solution to the issue, a loan move for Douglas Luiz does make sense. Manchester City would know what they’re getting with Luiz, and he could do a job immediately for Pep Guardiola’s side. Douglas Luiz was a fine player for Aston Villa before moving to Juventus. Although he isn’t a typical number 6 his versatility to play as an 8 or a 6 would immediately strengthen City’s midfield. In terms of a signing that can step in straight away and represent a low risk move Douglas Luiz does make sense.

There is also the potential for Douglas Luiz to come in now and contribute while City search for a midfielder to sign in the summer. James Ducker also reports that City are keen admirers of Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Douglas Luiz could fill that hole in City’s current squad while they aim to sign their ideal midfield target in the summer. The more you look at it the more a loan move for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz does tick the boxes City require to tick off this month.
