FC Barcelona took a big step towards achieving one of their main objectives for the season a few days ago as they beat Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey to secure a place for themselves in the final of the competition.
However, the Blaugranes had to work very hard to get a 0-1 victory in the second leg of the tie, and the exertion the players had to face in that game was quite clear from the fact that up to four Blaugrana players left the Metropolitano with physical problems.
Gavi was one of these players, even though he did not play even a single minute in that match. The Spaniard was expected to play, but felt some discomfort in his knee while warming up for this game, and thus, Flick decided not to risk him.
As a result of this problem, his participation in the upcoming match against Real Betis was also in doubt, especially as he was not one of the players in the team of starters during a training match in the last training session ahead of this league game.
In such circumstances, the Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, provided an update on the youngster’s condition as he addressed the press ahead of the game against Real Betis. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the German tactician clarified that the midfielder was ready to play tomorrow:
“We thought he could play against Atlético, but he didn’t. Now he has no issues, I’ve spoken with the doctor and he’s fine. He can play tomorrow.”
Gavi’s presence in this game can turn out to be quite important, as Dani Olmo is already out with an injury, and Barcelona also have to play the first leg of the quarter-final tie against Borussia Dortmund only a couple of days after this league game. But even if he is unable to play, Flick will have options like Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, and Pablo Torre to start in his stead.
