Confusion is growing among supporters concerning Jack Grealish after the Manchester City winger was named in Lee Carsley’s latest England squad despite being injured.

Grealish was first ruled out for Manchester City’s eventual 5-0 win over Sparta Prague in the UEFA Champions League last month, before manager Pep Guardiola would go on to suggest that the Englishman would be out of action for between seven and 10 days.

“Jeremy [Doku] a little longer than Jack [Grealish], but both are injured after the last games… I don’t know [how long they will be out for]. Hopefully Jack will be maybe one week, 10 days, Jeremy a little longer,” Guardiola said, before the Belgian returned over the last few matches.

Pep Guardiola went on to state after Manchester City’s exit from the Carabao Cup at the fourth round stage that Jack Grealish would play no part in the club’s remaining two matches against Sporting and Brighton & Hove Albion prior to the international break.

However, in a fresh turn of events, Grealish’s process in recovering from his injury has seemingly sped up with the player having been selected for action for England in their upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.

As confirmed by Lee Carsley and the England national team on Thursday afternoon, Grealish has been called up to the latest international contingent despite his ongoing fitness and injury problems.

John Stones, on the other hand, remains excluded from the England national team after he picked up a foot problem that has led to his absence from the last two Manchester City matches, and is likely to keep him out against Brighton & Hove Albion this weekend.

Joining Grealish in the final international squad of the calendar year are another trio of Manchester City teammates including right-back duo Rico Lewis and Kyle Walker, alongside Phil Foden.

The call-up for Grealish, despite being absent for Manchester City’s last few matches due to a lack of fitness and an ongoing injury problem, also coincides with a cryptic message issued by the forward on his social media channel late last month.

In an upload to his Instagram story, Jack Grealish shared a quote which read, “You never know what people are going through and sometimes the people with the biggest smiles are struggling the most, so be kind.”

There have been no further questions raised around Jack Grealish’s fitness in recent weeks, and Pep Guardiola is likely to provide an update on the status of his Treble-winning forward when he speaks to the media on Friday afternoon.

In light of Jack Grealish’s call-up to the England set-up, a number of Manchester City fans have made their feelings and confusion known on social media, with one user stating, “Just remembered his Instagram story… he might’ve fallen out with Pep.”

Another fan speculated, “Something’s going on behind the scenes that we’re not being told about,” whilst a further user said in response, “If he plays for England before City while we are in the injury crisis we are in I think he is as good as gone in the summer.”
