John Egan has left a message for Burnley fans.

John Egan has left a thoughtful parting message to Burnley after he sealed his deadline-day switch to Hull City.

This heartfelt gesture came through the defender's Instagram, where he expressed his deep appreciation for his time at the Lancashire club, stating that he "loved" his experience there.

The final day of the window was once again a busy one for many clubs and Ruben Selles capped off his month with the capture of Egan from Burnley. The defender had only signed a season-long contract at Turf Moor in November, but the Tigers managed to prize him out by offering the Clarets £250,000 for his services and it was duly accepted, with the centre-back signing an 18-month deal at the MKM Stadium.

City will now be keen for Egan to make his mark and will be relying on his Championship experience to strengthen a squad that, in truth, is still short in that department.

Having left Sheffield United last summer, it was uncertain whether he would get another opportunity in the Championship, especially after an Achilles injury brought his 2023-24 campaign to a premature end.

Nevertheless, Scott Parker's side offered him that chance and, although his impact on the pitch was limited, Egan was clearly grateful for the opportunity.

Relaying his gratitude in a post on his Instagram story, the Irishman said: "Loved my time @burnleyofficial great club to be a part of all the best for the future!"

This was followed up by another post issuing his delight at signing for Selles' side: "Delighted to be here @hullcity let's go."

Burnley supporters will be pleased to see this post and will likely wish him well on his next journey in the EFL.

Now at the MKM, Egan will be fully focused on winning over his new supporters and playing his part in helping the Tigers climb the table.

Currently, Hull are sitting in 21st place with Derby County and Luton Town just two points behind them.

While their defence hasn’t been dreadful, an extra reinforcement will be a welcome boost, and Egan’s experience in the second tier could prove invaluable. Having twice secured promotion from this division, he brings a winning mentality - something that, while not directly suited to a relegation scrap, could still make a crucial difference.
